For early-stage entrepreneurs and companies, expanding into new markets can be intimidating.

The TEC Edmonton-TusStar Exchange Accelerator will educate and guide technology- based companies from Canada and China on best practices for doing business in each country.

The six-month program provides training and support to break down business and cultural barriers such as language, intellectual property policies, regulatory concerns and differences in business etiquette.

Run by TEC Edmonton and TusStar, two of the top university incubators in Canada and China respectively, program participants can expect world-class support.

Program Details

Participants will receive:

  • Assistance, education and strategic business support in accessing the Canadian/Chinese market
  • Interaction with  like-minded entrepreneurs  and innovators looking to expand globally
  • Access to TEC Edmonton’s and TusStar’s large network of partners

What’s Included:

  • Workshop sessions with experts to develop market entry plans and address business concerns
  • Soft landing and post-soft landing services to help your company get up and running
  • Assistance with financing strategies, including grant application support
  • Consultations with experts to resolve policy, regulation, intellectual property, and visa issues

Accepted participants will be in the program for 12-month renewable increments.

  • Create collaborations between Merck and early-stage companies.
  • Provide space, mentoring and financial support.
  • Foster an innovation culture.
  • Advance health-related technologies from Alberta, Canada, and beyond
  • Access to TEC Edmonton and TEC Health Accelerator services, including business support, investor connections, competitive intelligence and local educational and networking events.
  • Mentoring from Merck scientists and business development leads, as appropriate.
  • Connections to Merck and/or business development contacts, as appropriate.
  • Office and lab space located at TEC Edmonton.
  • Access to University of Alberta core facilities and equipment.
  • Other external service providers as appropriate.

For Canadian companies:

While in Canada (three months):

  • First person $500/month CAD
    Each additional person $350/month* CAD

While in China (three months)

  • Case-by-case fees based on required services

For Chinese companies:

*Maximum of four people per company
