Last week, TEC Edmonton and the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises from Public Works and Government Services Canada hosted seven federal organizations in one afternoon to help innovators get the resources they need.
The house was packed with entrepreneurs and innovators, eager to get a personalized look into the federal programs and initiatives that are designed to help them find funding, access resources, and increase tax savings.
In the opening remarks from the Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP), a representative from Public Works and Government Services stated that “Often, Canadians don’t buy Canadian technology. As the Government of Canada, we’re trying to change that.”
Next up, complimentary federal innovation programs and services were introduced, including NRC-IRAP, NSERC, Western Economic Diversification Canada, the Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) Incentive Program, and more.
Following the introductions was a question-and-answer period with the innovator’s panel featuring entrepreneurs with firsthand experience accessing the services.
The afternoon ended with breakout sessions hosted by each organization, giving attendees the opportunity to receive individualized, one-on-one assistance.
The day turned out to be a success with many attendees staying until the very end to take advantage of the opportunity to meet with the organization representatives face-to-face. Thank you to all who attended, and to Public Works & Government Services Canada for co-hosting the event. For those who weren’t able to attend, check back again for similar events to be held in the future!
