Stephanie Gillis-PaulgaardDirector of Communications & Marketing
Stephanie took on the role of Director of Communications & Marketing at TEC Edmonton in 2016 where she develops strategic and creative communications campaigns, manages TEC’s brand reputation, handles crisis management and sponsor relations. With over 17 years of experience in public affairs, media relations strategy and strategic communications counsel, Stephanie’s passion is telling dynamic, engaging stories showcasing the exciting technology innovations being developed by TEC’s clients. Originally from Cape Breton, Stephanie holds  a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) from Cape Breton University (formerly known as University College of Cape Breton) and a Public Relations Diploma from MacEwan University. She successfully completed the Canadian Securities Course and the Strategic Investor Relations Program from Ivey Business School at Western University. In her spare time, Stephanie volunteers with a number of community organizations and has a passion for fitness, culinary adventure and travel. She is also the Founder & Managing Director of Take Roots Consulting.
Chelsey Van Weerden
Chelsey Van WeerdenDigital Communications Associate
Chelsey has been with TEC since 2016. As Digital Communications Associate, Chelsey manages the social media channels, assists with digital marketing and writes client-based success stories. Prior to joining TEC, she was a Research Grants Administrator at the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute, and a Communications Assistant at MacEwan University. Chelsey holds a BA in Art History from the University of Alberta and a Public Relations Diploma from MacEwan University. Outside of TEC, Chelsey co-founded and wrote an Edmonton-based visual arts blog and online publication for two years, and in her spare time enjoys reading, cooking and baking.

Bobbi Elliott
Bobbi ElliottDirector of Finance
As TEC’s Director of Finance, Bobbi is responsible for finance, human resources, and administrative functions of the organization. Bobbi has over 20 years of financial experience in various industries, including private, public, and not-for-profit sectors. She has CPA and CGA designations, and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration. Before joining TEC Edmonton in 2015, Bobbi was the Manager of Revenue-Non-Government Funding at Alberta Health Services.
Brittany Pierce
Brittany PierceFinancial Administrator
As TEC Edmonton’s Financial Accountant since 2008, Brittany handles the finance, administrative, and IT functions of the office. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of New Brunswick, and is currently working towards her CPA designation. When she’s not working at TEC, Brittany can be found baking treats for the office.

Rebecca Ferguson
Rebecca FergusonHuman Resources and Finance Assistant
Rebecca joined TEC in 2016. As the Human Resources and Finance Assistant, Rebecca maintains human resource records, assists with employee recruitment and general finance support. A graduate of the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce, Rebecca enjoys skiing in the mountains and camping.

Legal

Laine Woollard
Laine WoollardSenior Legal Counsel
Laine received his degrees in Pharmacy and Law from the University of Alberta. He spent four years in private practice conducting cases in administrative, corporate commercial, civil and criminal litigation up to and including the Alberta Court of Appeal. He then spent the next four years as in-house counsel and subsequently as a member of the Board of Directors of an Edmonton drug research company with strong corporate connections to a median-size Japanese pharmaceutical company. Laine joined the University of Alberta’s Industry Liaison Office (ILO) in 1994, and continues his role with TEC Edmonton by managing patent portfolios and providing legal counsel on matters pertaining to licensing, contracts, and corporate/commercial issues.
Ian Andrews
Ian AndrewsLegal Intern
As TEC’s legal intern, Ian assists Senior Legal Counsel with legal research, file review and regulatory compliance work. He also aids in drafting legal documents and managing the University patent portfolio. Ian holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Lethbridge, and is currently a law student at the University of Alberta. Throughout his undergraduate studies, Ian worked as a research assistant at the Alberta RNA Research and Training Institute (ARRTI), specializing in physical and computational biochemistry. Ian is also an amateur digital artist and 3D animator, and enjoys golfing, mountain biking, and playing board games in his free time.
Brenda Holt
Brenda HoltLegal Executive Assistant
Brenda works under the direction of in-house Senior Legal Counsel, Technology Commercialization and Informatics and Intellectual Property Manager as part of the team that services the legal needs of other members within TEC Edmonton and the greater University of Alberta community. She acts as the initial contact for all legal enquiries, provides information related to the enquiry and performs a variety of paralegal activities. Brenda started her administrative career with the Workers’ Compensation Board of Alberta before coming to the University of Alberta in 1992, and then joining the University of Alberta Industry Liaison Office (a precursor to TEC Edmonton) in 2002. She is a member of the Canadian Association for the Prevention of Discrimination and Harassment in Higher Education (CAPDHHE). Brenda’s passions include travel, dining out and trail running; she has completed 10 marathons throughout Canada and the U.S., and plans to retire close to the ocean one day.

Informatics and Intellectual Property Management

Brenda Service
Brenda ServiceIP Manager; Legal
Brenda has been a member of the TEC Edmonton team for the past 20 years. As the Informatics and Intellectual Property Manager, Brenda is responsible for managing and coordinating the University of Alberta’s patent protection program, as well as asset management, minimization of liability, management of the asset information system, authorizing and directing patent expenditures, and educating inventors, researchers and TEC Edmonton staff on patent, copyright and trademark law. Before joining TEC, Brenda was a Paralegal at Ogilvie Law LLP. She holds a Legal Assistant Diploma from MacEwan University, and is a member of the Canadian Association of Paralegals (CAP). Outside of TEC, Brenda enjoys traveling, cooking, mountain biking, and hiking.
Darlene Kramps
Darlene KrampsIP Assistant
As the Intellectual Property Assistant with TEC since 2007, Darlene assists with the management of the University of Alberta’s patent portfolio, manages and maintains the integrity of intellectual property management database, and works closely with internal and external associates. Darlene has over 30 years of combined legal experience working for organizations such as the City of Edmonton and Bryan & Company, Field Law, and Stantec. Darlene enjoys camping, music, gardening, and spending time with family.

Reception

Audrey Dolinski
Audrey DolinskiReception
Audrey has been the receptionist for TEC Edmonton since 2007, greeting and announcing visitors who are arriving to meet with TEC representatives or TEC Centre tenants. Located at Enterprise Square, the TEC Centre provides office, laboratory and small-scale manufacturing space to eligible early-stage clients, along with access to TEC experts and services. Audrey is the coordinator for all office administrative duties which includes managing all meeting rooms, event support and office resources for TEC staff.
