Couple of excellent stories on new technology  in the region, in  today's (Thurs. Aug. 2, 2012) Edmonton Journal.

Dave Cooper writes on the new DuPont Pioneer Edmonton Research Centre near Ardrossan - 20 employees dedicated to seed genetics and new breeding technology. "There is a tremendous growth opportunity here," says Dupont Pioneer Canada President Ian Grant in the interview. "Especially for earlier maturing crops - like hybrid corn." It appears the research centre is located in Edmonton because of DuPont Pioneer's research links with the University of Alberta plots.

Jodie Sinnema, in the storyA faster, more accurate way to treat cancer, reports on the Cross Cancer Institute's new state-of-the-art radiation machine that uses RapidArch technology to radiate tumours with much greater accuracy thus sparing healthy tissue, and is far more patient-friendly than the last generation of radiation machines.
