nton, Alberta. Technology North Corp. is one step closer to bringing its TN ActiveCare iPhone applications to assisted living organizations thanks to $200,000 in product development support from NRC-IRAP and the Alberta Innovates Technology Futures Voucher program to further prototype development.
With over 12 years of experience providing customized software solutions for business and government agencies, and in leveraging its health industry and IT security expertise, Alberta-based Technology North has set its sights on the assisted living, behaviour intervention and long-term care industries - a sector in need of the benefits of automated process streamlining.
“Frontline workers spend upwards of 25% of their time on paperwork. While this is necessary, it takes them away from serving their patients,” said Ling Huang, CEO of Technology North. “Our solution replaces paper forms with ‘intelligent’ electronic forms delivered to an iPhone. The TN ActiveCare applications allow for streamlined, real-time data entry. This standardizes work tasks, thus enabling service providers to deliver better health care with their limited resources, and meets activity or outcome based reporting requirement.”
Funding challenges in health care, aging populations, and the growing costs of health care make this a vital solution. Working with TEC Edmonton, Technology North has received assistance in developing its proposals, conducting a market assessment for its solution, as well as tuning its business model and product offering. TEC Edmonton is also helping attract experienced management through its network.
“Our team is specialized to help meet the needs of innovators like Technology North. From intellectual property protection to market assessments and business structuring, we have a broad range of expertise that early-stage companies often lack, but desperately need,” said Chris Lumb, CEO of TEC Edmonton.
A pivotal relationship in moving this product into the marketplace is a pilot deployment opportunity Technology North has arranged with the Excel Society, a leading Alberta service care provider. Excel is working closely with Technology North to ensure that the solution is designed around the constraints experienced by all service providers.
“With limited resources and challenging clientele, Excel Society is always looking for ways to improve efficiencies, “said Sharon Read, President and CEO of the Excel Society. “The TN Active Care iPhone application will allow staff to collect and record client information in an easy, confidential, and timely manner, allowing more time to be spent on client care and support. Excel has worked with Technology North for 10 years and is excited about another leading edge strategy to improve service provision.”
The next stage in Technology North’s business development will be to work with TEC Edmonton to develop a comprehensive business plan and drive the company to multi-million dollar revenues within the next eighteen months.
