Your invention will be rigorously evaluated and one of the following options will be presented:

1.) Pursued for protection and commercialization

2.) Returned to the researcher for further development

3.) Returned to the researcher if insufficient market opportunities exist

If commercialization is pursued the benefits of working with TEC Edmonton include:

• Expertise and resources devoted to your invention
• Start-up costs are covered for IP protection (patent applications, trademark, copyright and administration costs covered)
• Marketing your technology to existing companies or assist you in forming a company
• Assistance with commercial negotiations, legal contracts, agreements and revenue collection
• Continuing your focus on researching and teaching

2. Commercialize Invention Independently

Some researchers prefer to commercialize their inventions independently. In these cases the researcher must still submit a Report of Invention form. If an independent company is formed, that company drives the commercialization process.
