TEC VenturePrize Business Plan Competition

We invite you to compete in the annual TEC VenturePrize business plan competition. There are three award categories – the Fast Growth category for general business, the NEW VenturePrize TELUS ICT category and the provincial Student Business Plan category for post-secondary students.

Fast Growth Award

  • Grand Prize Winner receives over $80,000 in cash and in-kind services.
  • Two Runners Up receive over $30,000 each in cash and in-kind services.

NEW VenturePrize TELUS ICT competition

  • Grand Prize Winner receives $12,000 in cash and opportunity to work with TELUS IT experts to further develop technology/app
  • Two Runners Up receive $5,000 each in cash.

Student Award - Provincial competition

  • Grand Prize Winner - 20K cash
  • Two Runners Up - 7,500 cash

Who Can Participate

Entrants must be an individual, team, or company that has:
1. A viable, high-growth business concept
2. At least one person living, working or attending school in Alberta;
3. If entering as a new company, the company must be operational within one year;
4. If entering as an existing company, the majority of operations must occur in Alberta, have fewer than 20 full-time employees, have less than $1 million in annual revenue, and have less than $2 million in capitalization; and
5. Not previously received awards as a finalist in a VenturePrize Competition

TEC VenturePrize Provincial Student Business Plan Competition

Supported by Alberta Innovates - Technology Futures, this competition is open to the top three finalists from post secondary institutes in Alberta offering a student business plan competition. These finalists will then have the opportunity to vie for top place in the province and take home a substantial prize package to help grow their company!

  • Grand Prize receives $20,000 in cash and in-kind services
  • Two Runners Up receive $7,500 each in cash and in-kind services

Who Can Participate

Entrants must be a full-or part time post-secondary student or student team residing in Alberta that has:
1. A viable, high-growth business concept
2. Registered in ONE of the post secondary student competitions.
3. Not previously received awards as a finalist in a Student VenturePrize Competition.
4. Those students who have previously placed in the top three of a previous VenturePrize Student Competition are eligible to compete during the following year in the Fast Growth competition.

novaNAIT YTP-Hatch Competition

Hatch is a business plan contest open to current NAIT students or recent graduates from NAIT (see website for details). The applicants are those who need a little assistance to help make their business plan a reality. The competition is open to ideas with a technology, science or knowledge-based focus.

Red Deer College – RED Challenge

Contest participants submit a brief description of their idea for a technology, science or knowledge based business. Finalists receive guidance to turn those unique ideas into full blown business plans.

SAIT Launch Competition

LAUNCH is an entrepreneurship and innovation program for SAIT students and alumni. Throughout the academic year events and seminars open to all students and alumni will be organized on topics relating to entrepreneurship and innovation. Seminars will be lead by business professionals and business owners from the Calgary area.

University of Alberta – AVCatalyst Competition

Do you have an innovative idea? Are you looking for the tools to turn your idea into a business? Looking for seed capital? If you answered “yes” to these questions then consider entering the University of Alberta Venture Catalyst business competition!  Registration in AVCatalyst includes interactive education emphasizing the critical aspects of starting and running a business. 

University of Lethbridge – South Venture Competition

Have a great idea that just needs a financial boost to become a legitimate business? The South Venture Business Plan Competition is open to post-secondary students and recent graduates from the Lethbridge and Medicine Hat regions, and from the U of L Calgary and Edmonton campuses (see website for details).
