TEC VenturePrize Business Plan Competition

We invite you to compete in the annual TEC VenturePrize business plan competition. There are three award categories – the Fast Growth category for general business, the NEW NanoVenturePrize for nano based business and the Student Business Plan category for post-secondary students.

Fast Growth Award

  • Grand Prize Winner receives over $80,000 in cash and in-kind services.
  • Two Runners Up receive over $38,000 each in cash and in-kind services.

NanoVenturePrize Award

  • Grand Prize Winner - 50K cash in addition to in-kind awards
  • Runner Up - 25K cash in addition to in-kind awards

Student Award

  • Grand Prize Winner - 6K cash
  • Two Runners Up - 2K cash

Should there be a finalist in the provincial student category whose submission is based on a Nano technology, there is the opportunity to qualify for up to an additional 3-5K cash award!!

Who Can Participate

Entrants must be an individual, team, or company that has:
1. A viable, high-growth business concept
2. At least one person living, working or attending school in Alberta;
3. If entering as a new company, the company must be operational within one year;
4. If entering as an existing company, the majority of operations must occur in Alberta, have fewer than 20 full-time employees, have less than $1 million in annual revenue, and have less than $2 million in capitalization; and
5. Not previously received awards as a finalist in a Fast Growth VenturePrize Competition

TEC VenturePrize Provincial Student Business Plan Competition

Supported by Alberta Innovates - Technology Futures, the top three finalists from the following competitions will each share 10K in prizes : I2M (Edmonton and north) STIC (Calgary and area) and South Venture (Lethbridge and area).

These finalists will then have the opportunity to vie for top place in the provincial TEC VenturePrize Student Business Competition.

  • Grand Prize receives $6,000 in cash and in-kind services (see note above)
  • Two Runners Up receive $2,000 each in cash and in-kind services

Who Can Participate

Entrants must be a full-or part time post-secondary student or student team residing in Alberta that has:
1. A viable, high-growth business concept
2. Registered in ONE of the student competitions.
3. Not previously received awards as a finalist in a Student VenturePrize Competition.
4. Those students who have previously placed in the top three of a previous VenturePrize Student Competition are eligible to compete during the following year in the Fast Growth or NanoVenturePrize Competitions.
