Method for High Resolution Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometry
Improved Device for Time Lag Focusing
Description
This technology involves a laser induced ionization method for the improved resolution and measurement of large molecules. The invention provides an instrument for measuring the molecular weight of large organic molecules comprising a Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time Of Flight Mass Spectometer with time lag focusing and including improvements to source ion optic design, source high voltage systems, modes of delivering ion ejection pulses, profiles of ion ejection pulses, system operation integration, system detector design, and introduction platform for both standard and membrane based samples.
Advantages
Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization is a very important technique for the detection of bipolymers. This new method is both inexpensive to construct and easy to use. The resolution and accuracy of measurement for bipolymers is also greatly enhanced.
Potential Markets
Companies involved in environmental testing need high performance mass spectrometers to check for soil and water contamination. Pharmaceutical firms could utilize this technology for improved capabilities of performing multi-element screening for the control of diseases and genetic disorders.
