A novel E. coli protein production system

Recombinant protein secreted into growth medium

Description

University of Alberta researchers have discovered that laboratory strains of E. coli secrete YebF, a native protein of unknown function, into the culture medium. Recombinant YebF fusion proteins are also secreted directly into the growth medium. As published in Nature Biotechnology 2006 Jan;24(1):100-4, secretion has been demonstrated with both hydrophilic and hydrophobic proteins; these fusion proteins exhibited excellent biological activity.
The ACES™ YebF Protein Export Kit is available exclusively through Athena Enzyme Systems.

Advantages

  • Eliminates cellular lysis step in current E. coli protein production systems
  • Reduces the need for protein solubilization and re-folding steps thus saving time and money
  • Simplifies purification steps, reducing protein loss and contamination
  • Potentially reduces endo-toxin contamination during therapeutic protein production

Potential Markets

  • academic research
  • industrial protein production
