Novel Method for Locating the Source of Voltage Sag

Description

Today`s electronics are smaller, faster and more sensitive to power disturbances than in the past. On numerous occasions, slight disturbances have caused computers to malfunction and entire industrial facilities to shutdown. Presently, there are several devices capable of automatically identifying and mitigating various types of power quality disturbances, but none of these devices provide adequate information about the location of the disturbance source.

The present invention is a simple, cost-effective method for locating the source of a voltage sag and is a first, essential step in power source trouble-shooting or dispute resolve. The invention has been proven mathematically and has been successfully tested in the field.

Advantages

  • Easy to implement.
  • No threshold to set.
  • Can be applied to power flickering.

Potential Markets

The technology will be of interest to manufacturers of power quality meters, power companies and industrial facilites that rely on a consistent supply of quality power. In particular, industrial plants that employ process controllers, programmable logic controllers, adjustable speed drives, or robotics will find the technology useful.
